The SHARE Workshop on the Potential Impact of Regional Quality Assurance Standards on Higher Education in the Philippines

The SHARE Workshop on the Potential Impact of Regional Quality Assurance Standards on Higher Education in the Philippines was held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Manila on 6 December 2017, hosted by the Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines (CHED). The Workshop was held to disseminate the ASEAN Quality Assurance Framework to a Philippine audience, enhance Internal and External Quality Assurance capabilities of Philippine Higher Education Institutions and the CHED. The event was opened by Dr. Patricia Licuanan, Chairperson of the CHED and HE Franz Jessen, Ambassador of the European Union to the Philippines.
150 representatives from the CHED, Higher Education Institutions, Professional Bodies, Industry representatives and the five Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines attended the event. The objectives of the workshop were raising awareness and facilitating a better understanding on the state of development of the regional QA framework (AQAF) among the higher education community; analysing the existing external QA structures at national levels against the background of regional standards as laid down in the AQAF; discussing with ministry, university leadership, quality assurance staff at universities and the agencies the relevance and possible consequences of the regional framework on national regulations and practices.
Speakers from Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Indonesia, Singapore, Germany, Malaysia and Finland shared their views on the topic with the Philippine audience.
