ASEAN-EU Consultation Workshop on Higher Education: The Role of SHARE to Support ASEAN’s Vision on Harmonising Higher Education in the Region

English

Jakarta, 22 May 2018European Union Support to Higher Education in ASEAN Region, or SHARE, is funded by the European Union in cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat. The programme has the broad remit to strengthen regional cooperation, enhance the quality, competitiveness and internationalisation of ASEAN higher education institutions and students, contributing to an ASEAN Community beyond 2015.

The EU Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region (SHARE) Programme will end its four-year pilot phase in January 2019. Pursuant to the endorsement of the 12th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education (SOM-ED) held in Bangkok on 30 November and 1 December 2017, EU and ASEAN Secretariat discussed the intent to extend the pilot phase of SHARE until 2021. The opportunities presented by this possible extension of SHARE by around 2.5 years necessitate an inclusive consultation with all stakeholders.

This two-day workshop brought together at least 50 participants from ASEAN and EU representatives comprising SOM-ED Leaders, SOM-ED Focal Points for SHARE, representatives of regional organisation of higher education in region, university officials and SHARE students and alumni. The outcomes of this two-day workshop were proposed actions in key result areas on Quality Assurance (QA), Qualifications Frame (QF), Credit Transfer System (CTS), Policy, and Student Mobility plus key focus on private sector, technology, language, and communication alumni network.
