EU-ASEAN: Sharing Experiences on Education and Regional Integration

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), launched on January 1, 2016, is an important milestone in the economic integration of Southeast Asia. Full implementation of the AEC will remain an important ASEAN priority. But as the focus over the coming decade shifts to the implementation of the ASEAN 2025 agenda for further integration, the emphasis is also on building stronger people-to-people links across the region.

Implementing the new people-focused 2025 roadmap will require even stronger intra-ASEAN synergy and coordination. Significantly, it also opens up new avenues of cooperation with foreign partners, including the European Union, which – given its own economic and political integration efforts – is often held up as an inspiration for ASEAN.
