Higher Education Consultation Dialogue on the ASEAN Vision 2025
Bangkok, 29 April 2019 – ASEAN recognises that the development of its higher education sector is essential to achieving its overall aspirations of empowering the peoples of ASEAN and strengthening the ASEAN Community. Over the last four years EU Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region (SHARE) programme has supported ASEAN in improving the ASEAN quality assurance framework (AQAF) and the ASEAN Qualification Reference Framework (AQRF). It has built a credit transfer system (CTS) to promote mobility and enabled over 500 students to experience studying in another ASEAN Member State. But SHARE will continue for just another two years and it is not the only party supporting the development of student mobility and internationalisation in ASEAN.
In support from the ASEAN Secretariat, SHARE has successfully conducted Higher Education Consultation Dialogue on the ASEAN Vision 2025 on 29-30 April 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. This dialogue convened together at least 60 participants from ASEAN and EU comprising representatives from ASEAN Member States, regional organisations of higher education in the region and SHARE scholarships awardees. The focus of this dialogue was to provide platform for key stakeholders in the areas of QF, QA, CTS and student mobility to share experiences, insights and challenges of developing and ASEAN HE area an propose a vision for its sustainability in the future. Furthermore it will also identify and document the benefits, challenges and achievements of the development of an ASEAN higher education area and seek common solutions to sustainability of the HE area over the next 5 years with the support from SHARE over the next 2 years.
